This evening the Governing Board approved a property tax increase (2%) and the proposed FY2019-2020 District budget both by votes of 4-3.

The budget includes a 2% increase in the faculty pay scale. Faculty who are off the scale (greater than max) will get one-time stipend. The only faculty who will get a $1,000 permanent raise are those who make so little that a 2% increase is less than $1,000.

HLC has sent the response to the District:

    HLC Response Letter to MCCCD

The response states that the Governing Board’s actions have prompted HLC’s addition of an “area of focus” (focused on the Governing Board’s actions outlined in the FA’s complaint) that will be included in Gateway’s upcoming HLC Accreditation visit.  According to the HLC website, “Commission staff may expand the focus of the evaluation where appropriate to review additional topics of concern to the Commission.” For context, this would be the equivalent of an accreditation criterion not being fully met during a regular HLC visit.

Response to HLC from the Chancellor
