Dear Maricopa Colleges Faculty Foundation,
I want to thank each and everyone involved in helping my family and me when we were desperately trying to figure out what to do. We were in the process of being evicted for not being able to pay the rent for the month of January due to my husband’s check being garnished as I mentioned in my request for help.
Thanks to MCFF for all do to help students to realize our goals. My family and I are so grateful that you were able to help us. Our children are now feeling better and not feeling the stress of having to move. As I said this has been our house all along and that’s what they know as home. We were able to pay the January rent, which gave us an opportunity to catch up and pay February’s rent on time.
Also, now because I am so close to graduation I’m able to place an application in the Tempe School District for a job as an instructional assistant and feel very confident a job will be available soon. My plan is to help my family working full time, as I continue on to finish my teacher certificate at NAU. The program there is in the evening, which gives students who need to have a full time job, to work and go through the certification program as well. I went from one moment thinking that I was not going to be able to complete my last semester and graduate this May, to feeling that “YES, it is possible to complete my program and continue on. This is possible because people like you work hard to help support students to reach their goals. My family and I will never forget your assistance at this crucial time in our lives. We will always be grateful. You can be sure that once we are in a position to give back, we will surely and gladly be contributors in whatever way possible.
Tom, thank you for letting me know of other resources that are available that I was not aware of before.
Sincerely, the Burquez Family
