HLC’s Response Letter sent to District

HLC has sent the response to the District:

HLC Response Letter to MCCCD

The response states that the Governing Board’s actions have prompted HLC’s addition of an “area of focus” (focused on the Governing Board’s actions outlined in the FA’s complaint) that will be included in Gateway’s upcoming HLC Accreditation visit.  According to the HLC website, “Commission staff may expand the focus of the evaluation where appropriate to review additional topics of concern to the Commission.” For context, this would be the equivalent of an accreditation criterion not being fully met during a regular HLC visit.

Chancellor Sent HLC a Response

The Chancellor has sent a response to HLC about the complaint:

Response to HLC from the Chancellor

The specific issues brought forward in the complaint were not addressed in the response.

HLC Complaint Response Sent to District

Here is the HLC letter of response that was sent this morning to District Administrative Leadership by representatives of the Higher Learning Commission regarding the complaint lodged by the Faculty Association with the HLC.

Note that the HLC has requested of the Chancellor: “…an expedited review of this complaint since this is the second recurrence of issues about MCC(CD) being brought forth to HLC for consideration this year.”

The FA Files HLC Complaint

The FA President informed the members of the Governing Board and the Administration that the Faculty Association has filed an official complaint with the Higher Learning Commission, in order to bring to HLC’s attention many of the problematic behaviors this Board has consistently exhibited.

This step was not taken lightly, nor without due consideration as to the potential ramifications of such an action. The Association has filed this complaint because, as documented in the attached complaint, this Board has repeatedly demonstrated its lack of respect for higher education, its mission, its principles, and the value it provides to the community we serve.
